Madison Keys has reached the second Slam final of her career, at the Australian Open 2025. The American player in fact completed the comeback against Iga Swiatek – who was still in the running for the top of the WTA ranking – by erasing a match point in the final phase of the third and decisive set. After refusing to lose, Keys was better than the Polish player at managing the decisive points in the super tie-break, which issued the verdict.
The American will do everything to win her first Major: to do so she will have to beat Aryna Sabalenka. It was precisely the semifinal lost against the Belarusian at the US Open in 2023 that made her understand that only with the right mentality she could achieve her goals.
“I’m so proud of myself for being able to stay there mentally. I’d be lying if I said I never had any doubts. Losing to Aryna in the semifinals was heartbreaking. It took me a long time to get over that loss, but at the same time I never stopped telling myself that if I just kept working hard and giving it my all, I would achieve great things. Good things tend to happen when you have that kind of mentality,” explained Keys at the press conference.
