World No. 20 Madison Keys has won the Adelaide International title in her debut after beating No. 1 seed Jessica Pegula in an all-American final 6-3 4-6 6-1.
Throughout the final, the unseeded American served pretty well, firing 10 aces and winning 73 percent of her first serve points.
While the No. 1 seed still managed to earn six break points and convert three, it wasn’t enough as Keys had 12 break points and converted six of those chances.
For the 29-year-old, this is her ninth WTA title and the first one since winning Eastbourne during the grass season.
Also, the former world No. 7 now has a 2-1 head-to-head record against Pegula.
How Keys beat Pegula?
Early in the final, the world No. 20 opened a 2-0 lead but then lost the following games.
However, she didn’t panic and responded with back-to-back breaks to claim four games in a row and take the first set in style.
After losing the last four games of the first set, the top-seeded American bounced back by winning the first four games of the second set.
While Keys managed to get one break back, the 30-year-old held on to her second break and managed to force a decider after serving out for the second set in the 10th game.
