The 2024 MAC women’s basketball tournament begins on Wednesday, with Toledo and Ball State viewed as the favorites to capture the conference’s automatic bid into the Big Dance.
The Rockets (25-4, 17-1 MAC) are every bit as good as last year’s team that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Toledo is riding a 13-game winning streak into the conference tournament, with their last loss occurring back on Jan. 21 to Ball State.
The Cardinals (27-4, 16-2) certainly pose the biggest threat. The two teams split their meetings this season, with Toledo exacting revenge in a blowout victory on Feb. 24. Nevertheless, Ball State has proven itself to be formidable, particularly with non-conference victories over high major schools such as Georgia and Pittsburgh.
Kent State, Buffalo and Bowling Green are also candidates to play spoiler, as those three programs finished with records above .500 in both regular season and conference play.
