Lynn Williams was “shocked” by the trade that sent her to NJ/NY Gotham FC, she said Friday in her first Instagram post since the deal.
“I would have loved to play in front of you,” she wrote in a caption addressed to Kansas City Current fans.
The U.S. women’s national team forward was traded to Kansas City last January. She played in just one game for the 2022 NWSL finalists – their Challenge Cup opener against Racing Louisville – before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury that required surgery.
She was named to the USWNT roster for two January friendlies against New Zealand. Those matches are scheduled for Jan. 17 and 20.
While she expressed surprise at the trade, the forward wrote that she “couldn’t be more excited to get things started” in New York with Gotham.
A plethora of USWNT, Kansas City and Gotham teammates took to the comments to provide their reactions.
“LFG BABY,” wrote USWNT teammate Kelley O’Hara, who made one of the first big free agent moves of the offseason when she joined Gotham FC.
Sam Kerr, who is in a relationship with Gotham FC midfielder Kristie Mewis, wrote that Gotham will now have a “nice little…
