The national champion LSU women’s basketball team will accept an invitation to visit the White House, university spokesperson Michael Bonnette told the Associated Press. Here’s what you need to know:
- Previously, star forward Angel Reese aired her frustrations with first lady Jill Biden suggesting runner-up Iowa could also visit the White House. Reese said on a Thursday podcast that her team should “go to the Obamas” instead.
- On Friday, Reese said she would join the rest of her teammates in visiting the White House if they decide to go. “It was tough just seeing (Biden’s comments) in the beginning, but I think we’ll all come together and I think it’ll be good,” she said on “SportsCenter.”
- Following LSU’s victory, coach Kim Mulkey said she would go to the White House if the team was invited.
- On Tuesday, Biden’s press secretary Vanessa Valdivia addressed the first lady’s comments, saying they “were intended to applaud the historic game and all women athletes. She looks forward to celebrating the LSU Tigers on their championship win at the White House.”
