Los Angeles got much-needed Sparks in Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson. Earning the second and fourth pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft, Los Angeles selected two of the most pro-ready players available to build upon.
Despite improving to ninth in last year’s final standings, the Sparks were still short of a playoff berth. But it was just Curt Miller’s first season, and he’s made big moves now as the iconic team tries to change things around.
It was an unusual offseason for Los Angeles, as it lost the Ogwumike sisters, but it returns Lexie Brown and Dearica Hamby as the unspoken leaders of the Sparks. So far, it’s worked. The Sparks won its two preseason games, a 98-85 win over Phoenix and an 84-79 win over Seattle.
Los Angeles will need to keep the heat as the season begins with some testy opponents. It begins with the Dream and the Aces before Caitlin Clark and the Fever come into town for their fourth game of the season.
