Here we go with another Friday meet day! Today, we have a Big 12 conference showdown between Oklahoma and West Virginia where the goal for both teams is to improve NQS standings.
The Sooners are comfortably sitting in first place nationally with an NQS over 198. They’re aiming to replace a 197.925 to improve their NQS, so anything over that number will improve their number. Depth has been the Sooners strong point with multiple athletes having a chance to compete and exhibition with more options waiting in the wings, particularly on beam. Keep an eye out on that event in particular, the Sooners had six hit routines and two exhibitions, so there’s no clear idea who will be on that event tonight. Reigning Big 12 Newcomer of the Week Faith Torrez will be a standout on whichever events she competes tonight.
The Mountaineers are in a precarious position after the first week of NQS rankings. They sit on the bubble with an NQS in the 195’s. However, they can drop their lowest score tonight with anything higher than a 194.800. When I spoke with Head Coach Jason Butts this week, he said his goal for his team was to clean up the little deductions they seem to be picking up on each event to increase their team score.
