This weekend, Stanford made the trip up to Corvallis for a Pac-12 afternoon showdown at Gill Coliseum. Both sides are coming off home losses to conference opponents. Despite posting its best score of the season, Oregon State couldn’t hang with UCLA. Meanwhile, Stanford’s season-high 196.975 wasn’t enough to topple Arizona State in a tight back-and-forth affair.
As the host team, the Beavers are looking to pick up their first Pac-12 win of the season after losing to powerhouses California, Utah, and, most recently, UCLA. In last weekend’s losing effort, Jade Carey made her season debut in the all-around, while freshman Sophia Esposito competed on all four events for the first time as well, earning Pac-12 Newcomer of the Week for her performance. The two scored 39.625 and 39.525, respectively.
On the other hand, Stanford’s lone win in 2024 was over Pac-12 foe Washington. It almost picked up its second, falling by just one-tenth of a point to the Sun Devils last Friday. The season-best performance, highlighted by a season-high 49.200 on vault and 49-plus score on all four events for the first time this season, simply wasn’t enough.
