This is the second of back-to-back weeks competing against each other for BYU and Southern Utah, as the teams faced off in Cedar City last Friday.
BYU has found its footing in recent weeks after a rocky start, and being in front of its home fans should energize it even more. The Cougars’ floor choreography is always a delight — led by Rebekah Ripley’s Barbie Girl routine this season, among others. Freshman Kylie Eaquinto posted a 9.900 for her Yurchenko one and a half last week, and classmate Madison Raesly-Patton seems to be finding a groove as well.
Southern Utah continues to have a quietly good season. The Thunderbirds nearly broke 197 last week and certainly have that in mind for the future. Karley McClain continues to be a force in the all around, as evidenced by her many MRGC Gymnast of the Week honors. Beam has been a source of strength for much of the season for the Thunderbirds, and Trista Goodman recently returned to the bars lineup, where Shylen Murakami is always one to watch.
