The long-carried anticipation is finally subsiding as the Aces and Liberty take the court for the annual, in-season tournament coined the Commissioner’s Cup.
The Cup is still new to the league. It was originally meant to be part of the 2020 WNBA season, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed and officially awarded in 2021 to the Storm. The tournament also involves philanthropy by raising money for charities of the teams’ choice.
As the tournament goes into its third year in business, the Aces are back on the western side as defending champions. Their breakout season after winning the WNBA Championship last year has given them the confidence boost they need.
They’re currently 27-3, one of those slim losses coming 99-61 against the Liberty. They could be in for a historic feat if they continue this streak of dominance.
