Liberty match own WNBA record, hit 19 3s in rout of Sun

NEW YORK — The Liberty matched their WNBA record by hitting 19 3-pointers in a 100-52 rout of the Connecticut Sun on Sunday.

The margin of victory was the second largest in league history, falling short of the 59-point record held by Minnesota in a win over Indiana in 2017. Sunday’s win set the franchise mark for largest margin of victory, eclipsing a 43-point blowout over Washington in 1998.

Sabrina Ionescu led New York with 18 points, and Jonquel Jones added 13 points and 11 rebounds. Breanna Stewart and Leonie Fiebich also had 13 points. All four sat out for nearly the entire fourth quarter.

The Liberty finished 19-of-32 on 3-point attempts, led by Ionescu, who converted 4 of 6 shots from long distance.

“It was great to be able to see the contribution from everyone,” Ionescu said after the game. “Everyone came out really ready. Everyone scored and contributed in a really impactful way from the start to finish.”

New York improved to 7-0 for the first time since the 1997 season.
