For a long time, Canada’s Leylah Fernandez stood as the only WTA player donning Roger Federer’s On tennis shoes. The 2021 US Open finalist has now switched to the Puma Stewie 2 women’s basketball shoe.
Playing this month’s Guadalajara Open AKRON in Mexico, Fernandez introduced Puma’s kicks created in collaboration with American professional basketball player Breanna Stewart. In an interview with TennisONE, the current WTA world No.60 disclosed that she isn’t officially endorsed by Puma. Instead, she stumbled upon the Stewie 2s in a store, thinking that they were tennis shoes.
Even though the salesperson informed Fernandez that the shoes were intended for basketball, the 21-year-old decided to test them on the tennis court and was instantly impressed. What’s more, they seamlessly complement her Lululemon outfits.
