World No.60 Leylah Fernandez of Canada rallied from a set down to beat Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova 3-6 6-4 6-4 in the final of the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open and clinch her third career singles title.
Making her debut appearance at Hong Kong, Fernandez defeated Victoria Azarenka, Mirra Andreeva, Linda Fruhvirtova, Anna Blinkova, and lastly Siniakova, whom she had also beaten in their only previous meeting at the 2022 French Open.
In Sunday’s Hong Kong final, Fernandez twice dropped serve as Siniakova secured the first set. The 2021 US Open runner-up rebounded in the second set, establishing a commanding 4-0 lead. While she did experience a single service loss, Fernandez prevented Siniakova’s complete comeback by saving six break points in a long eighth game and holding serve for 5-3, eventually clinching the set on her first set point.
In the third set, Siniakova staged two comebacks from a break down. First, she rallied from a 1-3 deficit to level the score at 3-3. Later, she exhibited her determination once more by recovering from a 3-4 disadvantage to even the set at 4-4.
