Lexi Thompson to become seventh woman to play PGA Tour event with entry at Shriners Children’s Open

LPGA star Lexi Thompson will play in the PGA Tour’s Shriners Children’s Open next week in Las Vegas, making her the seventh woman to compete against the men on tour.

Thompson, 28, is one of the biggest names in women’s golf, making history as the youngest to play in a U.S. Open at age 12 and by winning an LPGA tournament at 16. She has 11 LPGA wins and one major victory, the 2014 Kraft Nabisco Championship, which she won at 19.

“I’m hopeful that my ability to play with the men next week at the Shriners Children’s Open sends a great message to the young women that you can chase your dream regardless of how hard it is,” Thompson said in a statement. “I’m grateful to Shriners Children’s for this opportunity to spend the week alongside these inspirational kids.”
