Leah Williamson back for England as Sarina Wiegman names Arnold Clark Cup squad

Captain Leah Williamson has returned to Sarina Wiegman’s England squad for this month’s Arnold Clark Cup.

Williamson was forced to miss a 4-0 win over Japan and 1-1 draw with Spain in November due to injury, but is back in a 26-player selection for games against Italy, Belgium and South Korea at the invitational tournament.

In Wiegman’s first picks of 2023, uncapped goalkeeper Emily Ramsey steps up to the senior squad, while Laura Coombs returns for the first time since November 2020. Jess Park, who scored on her debut against Japan, is also included again, but Beth Mead misses out after suffering an injury just before Christmas.

England won the inaugural competition last year, beating off competition from Canada, Spain and Germany.

The Euro 2022 champions will now take on three new challengers between February 16 and 22 as they step up their preparations for this summer’s Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Wiegman said: “The first camp of the year is always important to set the right tone for what comes next, especially with such a big opportunity in the summer. We are only looking forward now and we have to stay humble and focused on working hard.
