The Kansas City Current announced they have signed 15-year-old Alex Pfeiffer to a three-year contract, which runs through the 2026 NWSL season. Pfeiffer has been part of the U.S. youth national team pool at the U-15, U-16 and U-17 levels, including winning the 2022 CONCACAF Championship as a member of that U-15 team.
On a call with The Athletic, Pfeiffer sat at home sandwiched between her mom Kate, and dad Brian (already wearing a Current hoodie), and talked about starting her new professional career. Her agent was also on the call, making for a lot of adults in the room, but it was Pfeiffer who did most of the talking. It was a pointed visual of the balance between acknowledging her as a professional, but also still a teenager who mentioned that her friends would be very interested in the inside track on whether KC Current co-founder Brittany Mahomes was going to be able to convince Taylor Swift to invest.
Pfeiffer will spend the next couple of months with her family during the offseason before leaving her home in St. Louis and heading to Kansas City in January. She’s excited to play with Debinha — “You just watch her playing small side, you’re like, ‘What? How did she just score that?’” Pfeiffer said. “It’s insane.” — and continuing to develop her game….
