Through fight week, Katie Taylor has been swarmed by her fellow compatriots. The undisputed lightweight champion is ready to make history in front of a passionate Irish crowd, if she can get past the powerful Chantelle Cameron on May 20.
Cameron defends her status as the undisputed super lightweight champion against Taylor. Inside the 3Arena, the fight airs on DAZN.
It is the first time Taylor is fighting as a pro in Ireland. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist fought in Ireland’s first sanctioned women’s boxing match in 2001. Since then, she became the undisputed lightweight in 2019 and competed in the Fight of the Year against Amanda Serrano in 2022. Despite the odds favoring her in this fight, Taylor, 36, has detractors that believe her prime is over. ‘The Bray Bomber” is ready to prove she is still a dominant force in the ring.
“I do love proving people wrong as well – I love when some people are betting against me,” Taylor told Sky Sports. “It was the same in the Amanda Serrano fight. A lot of people had her as the favorite in that fight, and I love the face that I came through and proved those people wrong, and I have a chance to do that again on fight night.”
