Kate Douglass dominated the competition at the NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving National Championship, taking home medals and smashing records.
The Virginia junior led her team to their second-straight national championship, setting new American records in three separate strokes.
Douglass kicked off the meet with a 20.87-second finish in the 50-yard freestyle prelims to break the NCAA, U.S. Open and American records. Douglass then bested her record-breaking performance in the final, touching the wall in 20.84 to clinch gold and etch her name in history.
Douglass broke another American record on Friday, clocking a time of 49.04 in the 100-fly for her second individual title of the meet. Then, on Saturday, Douglass claimed the 200-breaststroke in 2:02:19, breaking Lilly King’s American, U.S. Open, NCAA and Meet record of 2:02.60 set at the 2018 NCAA Championships.
With her stunning performance at the NCAA Championships, Douglass became the fastest American woman in three distinct strokes and three different distances.
