World No. 10 Karolina Muchova has announced that she has had surgery on her wrist after the doctors came to the conclusion that surgically addressing the issue was “necessary.”
During the US Open – where Muchova made the semifinal – the Czech suffered a wrist injury. After losing in the US Open semifinal to Coco Gauff, Muchova took a break to address her injury. Unfortunately for Muchova, she ended up sidelined for the remainder of the 2023 season and even had to skip the WTA Finals and miss what would have been her debut at the season-ending tournament.
After being forced to skip the WTA Finals, Muchova announced in late December she would also not be ready to compete at the Australian Open. Muchova, the 2023 French Open runner-up, continued working on recovering from the wrist injury after withdrawing from the Australian Open but her wrist just wasn’t progressing as needed.
In the end, 27-year-old Muchova decided to have surgery, which was a success.
