Karolina Muchova has just made back-to-back semifinals at the US Open after ousting No. 22 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-1 6-4 in just an hour and 25 minutes of play.
Moments after sealing a win, the Czech tennis star raised her hands and had a joyful look on her face. For those who don’t know, 12 months earlier, the 28-year-old lost to Coco Gauff in the semifinal at Flushing Meadows and spent the next 10 months sidelined because of a wrist injury she described two days ago as “the worst and most serious” of her career.
But just two months into her comeback, Muchova is back to doing extremely well on the biggest stage as the former world No. 7 fired 20 aces, won 76 percent of her first serve points and earned 12 break points and realized four of them.
Now, the Czech awaits the winner of the match between No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek and home favorite Jessica Pegula.
