Karolina Muchova admitted she rooted for Maria Sakkari to lose her Beijing quarterfinal match and also revealed that she, Ons Jabeur, and Marketa Vondrousova all watched together the Greek’s match against Coco Gauff. On October 6th, Gauff handed Sakkari a 6-2 6-4 loss in the Beijing quarterfinal.
Following Sakkari’s Beijing quarterfinal loss, Muchova, Jabeur, and Vondrousova all secured the last three spots for the WTA Finals. Muchova, 27, highlights that she is never wishing on anyone to lose but also reminds that there was a lot on the line for her at that moment.
“In China, we were all locked in a hotel. We were watching Maria’s match. I don’t wish anyone to lose, but it was strong for us at that moment. Maky knew at that point that she could fly home from China. I made the same decision a few days later.
We were happy, and we congratulated each other and hope to see each other in Cancun,” Muchova told iSport.cz.
