French Open finalist Karolina Muchova revealed that just last year she was told by some doctors that she would never play tennis again. On Thursday, world No 43 Muchova clinched an upset win over second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka 7-6 (5) 6-7 (5) 7-5 in the French Open semifinal.
In 2021, Muchova was sidelined for seven months due to an abdominal injury. Last year, Muchova suffered an ankle injury during her French Open third-round match and exited the court in a wheelchair. Muchova, 26, has now been through to her first Grand Slam final at the French Open after saving a match point in a win over Sabalenka.

“I missed the Australian Open last year, and I was in a pretty bad state health-wise, I was working out a lot to try to get back. Some doctors told me, maybe you’ll not do sport anymore.
But I always kept it kind of positive in my mind and tried to work and do all the exercises to be able to come back. Last year, when my ranking dropped, I wanted to feel motivated to play to get back, but I couldn’t somehow,” Muchova said, per The Straits Times.
