American golfer Billy Horschel helped restrain a protestor at The Open after the Just Stop Oil group attempted to interrupt the event at Royal Liverpool.
Protestors reached the edge of the green on the 17th hole and threw orange confetti, which had to be blown away by course staff.
Horschel was seen trying to assist stewards in removing one female protestor from the course.
The tee box at the 15th hole was also targeted during the 151st Championship.
Play was not halted by any of the protests but the R&A said it was aware of two incidents and was investigating. One protestor got away.
The R&A said in a statement: “A protestor was quickly apprehended on the 17th hole and is one of four people who have been arrested by the police.
“Play was not disrupted and we would like to thank the marshals, players and other spectators for their vigilance and understanding as the protestors were removed.”
R&A chief executive Martin Slumbers had insisted before the competition in Hoylake that there had been no intelligence surrounding any potential protest this week, saying he was confident in “significant” security…
