For taking NJ/NY Gotham FC from last place to Saturday’s NWSL Championship, Juan Carlos Amorós has been named the 2023 National Women’s Soccer League Coach of the Year.
“After we surprised the players that were in the Best and Second Best XI, Yael [Averbuch West] got up to say something, and she announced that I got Coach of the Year, and all the players were really happy,” Amorós said in an exclusive chat with The Equalizer. “This is an award that recognizes the club, because coaches are nothing without a team.”
The Spanish coach was up against last season’s Coach of the Year, Casey Stoney, and Angel City interim-turned-full head coach Becki Tweed for the honor, and to be in such great company has made this achievement even more special for Amorós.
