Jonas Eidevall calls Gareth Taylor bullying claims ‘borderline slander’

Arsenal Women’s head coach Jonas Eidevall has called claims from Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor that he “bullied” the fourth official during the pair’s Women’s Super League fixture “borderline slander”.

Following City’s 2-1 loss in the Women’s Super League (WSL) on Sunday, Taylor said he was “protecting” official Melissa Burgin due to Eidevall’s actions.

Although Eidevall wasn’t cautioned or reprimanded by referee Rebecca Welch for his behaviour during the match, both he and Taylor engaged in heated exchanges on the touchline.

Eidevall dismissed the accusations and insisted there was “not a single percentage of truth” in them.

“To be honest I was disappointed with the comments because there is no truth in them,” Eidevall said. “I think the wording that Gareth used was borderline slander.

“Either he is not very good with the truth or he is not very good with the language but, either way, I do not think it was acceptable.”

He continued: “I have no intention of going into any legal process or anything. I have no intention about this getting more of my energy than needed but I really do think it is unacceptable to say things about a fellow colleague that is not true.
