Jonas Eidevall: Arsenal Women need ‘very big transfer window’

Arsenal Women boss Jonas Eidevall says the club need a “very big transfer window” this summer after expressing disappointment about their previous recruitment.

Eidevall’s side head into Saturday’s Women’s Super League finale having all-but mathematically secured third place and a Champions League place next term.

But after warning the club they got “one player too little (in summer), and we did that again in January,” Eidevall has reiterated his call for reinforcements to mount a title challenge, with leaders Chelsea eight points ahead.

“It has to be a very big transfer window for us this summer,” he said ahead of his side’s final home game against Aston Villa. “Especially given that both last summer and this winter windows, in my words, were not good enough for us.

“We didn’t get our required targets in the way we wanted, so we have to get that right this summer.”

Eidevall is likely to seek defensive arrivals as well as attacking ones, with Rafaelle Souza due to leave Arsenal this summer after 18 months at the club.

“I still remember when she came off the bench away at Manchester City last season and she played magnificently for 45 minutes – what a debut,” Eidevall said.
