Former three-time Grand Slam semifinalist Johanna Konta has no doubt that Iga Swiatek will one day become a Wimbledon champion as the former British tennis star believes the 23-year-old Pole is simply “too good of a player” not to fully figure out the grass as well.
Swiatek, a new five-time Grand Slam champion, has achieved major success on clay early in her career and she has also figured out how to be a strong force on hard courts in the last two years as well. But while the 23-year-old Pole has been the best and most dominant player in women’s tennis for the past two years, there is one thing she still fully hasn’t figured out – that’s playing on grass.
Last year, Swiatek appeared to be inching toward winning her first grass title at a WTA 250 tournament in Bad Homburg but then had to withdraw from her semifinal match due to possible food poisoning. After a solid Bad Homburg run, Swiatek also enjoyed a good Wimbledon run, reaching her first quarterfinal before suffering a three-set loss to Elina Svitolina.
