Jessie Fleming ‘should be fine’ to play in Canada’s World Cup opener – Equalizer Soccer

MELBOURNE, Australia – As Canada prepares to take on Nigeria in Group B on Friday afternoon, the fitness of midfielder Jessie Fleming has come into question. The availability of Canada’s maestro in the middle of the pitch remains a cautious concern. 

Fleming did not take part in the open portion of Canada’s training session on Wednesday morning. Fleming was seen bundled up and sitting on the bench as her teammates warmed up and stretched prior to Canada’s session.

Deanne Rose and Nichelle Prince both warmed up separately from Canada’s main group. While Rose and Prince both stretched in preparation to train, Fleming did not. 

Coach Bev Priestman kept her cards close when she offered an update on Fleming.

“Yeah, she’s great,” Priestman told The Equalizer after practice. “A few players are on their own individual plan. Today was a light day and so everyone is on that. You would have seen Deanne and Nichelle doing some specific work for their rehab. So yeah, I think Jessie should be…
