Jessica Pegula kept it simple when asked about her 0-6 record in Grand Slam quarterfinals as the American tennis star noted she will just try to do something mentally different this time when she meets Iga Swiatek and see if that works.
On Monday, the No. 6 seed routinely booked a US Open last-eight ticket after ousting rising star Diana Shnaider 6-4 6-2. By doing so, the 30-year-old made her seventh Major quarterfinal but also gave herself a shot at finally ending one of her negative records.
For the past couple of years, Pegula has been one of the most consistent players and she is not a stranger to making deep runs on the biggest stage. But somehow, she has never made it past the last-eight in a Slam although she has been to six Slam Major quarterfinals since 2021.
And two of those six losses came against Swiatek, who beat the world No. 6 in the 2022 French Open and US Open quarterfinal.
