Jessica Pegula has new coaching staff but it’s something different this time

World No. 5 Jessica Pegula decided to do something differently in her search for a new coach as the American tennis star hired two coaches who will work in a collaborative setup.

After Pegula’s slow start to the season and a shock Australian Open second-round loss to Clara Burel, the 30-year-old figured out she needed a change and that’s when she announced she was parting ways with her coach of five years, David Witt.

This week, Pegula is returning to action at a WTA 500 tournament in San Diego. In her pre-tournament presser, Pegula announced that she is now working with former doubles world No. 1 Mark Knowles and former Bahamian tennis player Mark Merklein.

“Right now I’m working in a combination with Mark Merklein and also Mark Knowles,” Pegula announced in San Diego.
