We would all be angry and disappointed if we lost two important finals in a row (in front of our crowd) against the same opponent: these were probably the feelings of Jessica Pegula after the US Open final lost to Aryna Sabalenka. But despite the results, I think that American tennis should be proud of what it has done in the last month.
The same final was played as in Cincinnati, the American fans hoped for a different outcome but in the end the American had to wait for the Belarusian, winner of the US Open for the first time in her career. The Belarusian had a complicated 2024 but she closed it, at least as far as the Slams are concerned, in the best possible way. Pegula had some chances, especially in the second set, where she served to equalize, but in the end she didn’t succeed.
At the press conference, the American tennis player analyzed the tournament, pros and cons of how it went, sharing the emotions she felt.
“Today was a very difficult challenge. At this moment I think I would have liked to play the third set but at least I’m happy to have been able to win a set, knowing that I lost both sets.
