Jenni Hermoso makes first Spain appearance since Luis Rubiales case

Date:

Jenni Hermoso has made her first appearance for the Spain national side since the Luis Rubiales scandal.

Hermoso, 33, replaced Mariona Caldentey in the 68th minute of Friday’s Women’s Nations League match against Italy with the two sides tied at 0-0.

It was her first appearance for the national team since Rubiales kissed her after the Women’s World Cup final, an incident that sparked turbulence and a criminal investigation.

Hermoso was selected earlier this month by national team manager Montse Tome for Spain’s Nations League fixtures against Italy and Switzerland.

Tome’s squad announcement came as the prosecutors investigating Rubiales’ kiss — the former Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president denies charges of sexual assault and coercion — continue to gather testimony from key witnesses, including Hermoso.
