Jay Williams isn’t letting a little backlash sway his opinion on Caitlin Clark’s greatness.
The ESPN analyst received flak last week when he said that he was “unwilling” to put the Iowa senior into the “great” category of basketball players. He doubled down on his Clark take Wednesday night during ESPN’s broadcast of the Kentucky-LSU men’s basketball game.
“I hear people talking about GOATs. For me, I’m like, “OK, you wanna be a GOAT. Fine. There’s levels of greatness,” Williams said. “You gotta win championships to be GOATs. So when people want to don her as the greatest, I’m like, slow down.”
He pointed to former UConn stars-turned-WNBA greats Diana Taurasi and Breanna Stewart, each of whom have won multiple NCAA and WNBA titles.
“Championships — that’s how we measure greatness overall,” Williams said.
