Jasmine Paolini, 28, created an absolutely stunning comeback in the Dubai final to beat Anna Kalinskaya and lift her first WTA 1000 title.
On Saturday, world No. 26 Paolini was on the verge of losing to 40th-ranked Kalinskaya as she was down by a set and a break at one point. Also even after forcing a third set, Paolini was inches away from losing the match as Kalinskaya had a chance to serve out for the match. But Paolini somehow managed to escape with a win, beating Kalinskaya 4-6 7-5 7-5.
Now, 28-year-old Paolini has two WTA titles in her collection.
How Paolini came back to beat Kalinskaya?
After starting the match with a break in the first game of the match, Kalinskaya got broken back in the fourth game as she and Paolini were tied to two games apiece through the opening four games. In the next two games, Kalinskaya and Paolini traded breaks and were leveled to three games apiece after the first six games. After twice blowing a break, Kalinskaya managed to break Paolini again for a 5-4 lead before serving out for the first set in the 10th game.
