Jasmine Paolini absolutely didn’t want to set up major goals or expectations for herself after losing the Wimbledon final as the 28-year-old admits she is “scared to dream too much.”
On Saturday, 2024 WTA sensation Paolini came just a set away from becoming a Grand Slam champion. But unfortunately for the Italian, she didn’t succeed in her goal after Barbora Krejcikova came up big late in their final to seal a 6-2 2-6 6-4 win and win her second Grand Slam title.
Even though Paolini reached her first Slam final just a month ago at the French Open – in which she was beaten by Iga Swiatek – she wasn’t really considered a favorite for the Wimbledon title this year since she had never before won a main draw match at The Championships. But not only that the 28-year-old clinched her first Wimbledon win this year, but she also made her first final at The All England Club.
“Today it’s a bit tough to speak. But it’s been a really good two weeks. I have to accept today and try to work hard. I’m sure I’m gonna do it. But today it’s tough. Because I was close, but it wasn’t enough,” Paolini said.
