Jannik Sinner remembered his girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya moments after his Halle victory as the Italian tennis star was so disappointed because his girlfriend lost the Berlin final in an absolutely devastating and heartbreaking way.
After overcoming Aryna Sabalenka in the Berlin quarterfinal and also making it past Victoria Azarenka in the semifinal, 25-year-old Kalinskaya was also hoping to get the job done against Jessica Pegula and lift her first WTA title on the grass courts of Berlin.
But that didn’t happen for Kalinskaya after No. 4 seed Pegula saved a total of five match points in the third set before completing a 6-7 (0) 6-4 7-6 (3) win over the 25-year-old Russian.
Shortly after Kalinskaya a thriller Berlin final, world No. 1 Sinner won his first grass title after beating Hubert Hurkacz 7-6 (8) 7-6 (2) in the Halle final.
Sinner was disappointed over girlfriend Kalinskaya’s loss
It was a great day for Sinner on the court but he still felt for his girlfriend.
“My girlfriend Anna played in Berlin today. She lost, with six match points (it was actually five match points). So I’m very sorry for her. She also had an amazing week,” Sinner said.
