Some very relevant doping cases have affected professional tennis in 2024. The first was that of Jannik Sinner, a true dominator of the men’s tour in the last twelve months, in which he won two Grand Slam titles, three Masters 1000 and the Nitto ATP Finals. The world No.1 – who will have to defend nearly 12,000 points in 2025 – was found to have tested positive twice for Clostebol in March during the Indian Wells Masters 1000, but his provisional suspension was quickly lifted because ITIA believed his version of events.
After a long trial, the 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria was recognized as innocent and won the US Open thanks to an amazing run. However – against all expectations – WADA appealed against the acquittal sentence and started a new trial before the CAS in Lausanne. Jannik – who risks suffering a 1 to 2-year ban – does not know the date of his trial for the moment, but the most likely hypothesis is that it will take place in early March before the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and Miami.
Sinner’s was not the only doping case that shook tennis in 2024. There was also that of Iga Swiatek, who reconstructed the origin of her contamination and her provisional suspension lasted just over a month.
