Petra Kvitova came back to winning a WTA 1000 at 33 year-old, defeating Elena Rybakina in straight sets in the final, and winning the Miami Open for the first time in her career. Kvitova thus conquers the 30th title of her career, in the 41st final played.
After the win, Petra said: “Certainly the tie-break was decisive today. I think it’s the longest I’ve ever played in my life. It’s not easy playing with Elena like I managed to do today. I’m really happy, and exhausted, but above all happy.
I think I played really well in Indian Wells and I continued to do so here, trying to concentrate on every match. I had very strong opponents during the tournament, like Elena. The serve helped me a lot, the courts are a little faster, as well as the balls, and this favors my game.
Even in moments of success, it’s hard to get back to work. In difficult moments, you feel sad and would like to do better. And then you go back on the pitch to try to become a better player. Yes, I love tennis, but I think it’s also the motivation to always do better and, as I’ve had many positive moments, I’ve always been motivated to have more.
