Ben Shelton, in his first experience at the Australian Open 2023, and outside the walls of friends, obtained a surprising qualification for the quarterfinals. The young American talent lost the derby valid for access to the semifinals with Tommy Paul in four sets, but he will be able to look to his future in the world of tennis with optimism and confidence.
Shelton said at the press conference: “It was a fantastic experience. It was great to play the quarterfinals at Grand Slam level for the first time. I think I played well. I definitely could have done better, probably will next time.
But I’m happy with the result achieved here: it was my first participation in the Australian Open, so I will bring many positive things with me. The audience has been incredible, I didn’t expect to receive this support being an American.”
