Former WTA No.1 Simona Halep has been provisionally suspended for doping since October 2022 and is not in the main draw of the second major of the year, Roland Garros. However, if she receives a positive response after the doping investigation, the Romanian could still participate in the tournament in Paris, although the chances are minimal.

According to Romanian news outlet As, Halep’s hearing is set to take place at the end of April, and if she proves her innocence, she could get a wildcard to enter the Grand Slam that starts on May 28.

The 31-year-old Halep, currently ranked No.26, hasn’t competed since the 2022 US Open, the tournament where her sample tested positive for roxadustat. Stere Halep, Simona’s father, expressed his confidence that his daughter will prove her innocence. He said that the verdict is expected on April 30, when the deadline is set.

If Halep does not make it to Roland Garros, she will not lose many ranking points, as she was eliminated in the second round last year in Paris. However, the French Open is a significant tournament for her, as she won the title in 2018 and reached two other finals in 2014 and 2017.
