In December, Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner returned to the United States after spending nearly 10 months wrongfully detained in a Russian prison. Now, she is one step closer to returning to a WNBA floor.
Not long after returning stateside, Griner announced her intentions to play for the Mercury during the 2023 WNBA season. As opening night nears, Griner has rejoined her teammates in training camp in preparation for the regular season.
Before the regular season gets underway, though, Phoenix will get started with a trip to Seattle to face the Storm in the first of two games on its preseason schedule.
Will she be playing in the Mercury’s 2023 preseason opener? Here is what we know about Griner’s status for Monday’s meeting with the Storm.

An injury report has not been released for Monday’s game, but Griner has been a full participant throughout Mercury training camp, clearing a path for her to make her return to the floor in Phoenix’s preseason opener.
