Angel City isn’t waiting around

At this point, it feels like I can just copy and paste, “Kansas City Current and Orlando Pride won again.” Both teams remained perfect this weekend, winning against Seattle Reign and San Diego Wave, respectively.

It appears the top teams from 2024 are rolling right into the new year. However, something less expected is Angel City’s hot start (2-2-0). Especially considering:

  • They finished in 12th place with a 7-6-13 record last season. The team moved on from head coach Becki Tweed at the end of the year.
  • They haven’t hired a full-time replacement, and Sam Laity is in charge in the interim. Angel City brought on championship-winning coach Mark Parsons as general manager earlier this year.
  • The permanent coaching role is still a question mark, but Parsons previously told The Athletic he intends to have someone signed by the summer.
