IOWA CITY, Iowa — One day shy of likely breaking women’s college basketball’s all-time scoring mark, Iowa senior Caitlin Clark was all smiles with nary an exhale. She has shaken off a cold and if there is pressure from living under the nation’s spotlight, her personality helps her deflect the intense glow rather than absorb it.
“Obviously, I understand the magnitude of this,” said Clark, who is eight points away from breaking Kelsey Plum’s NCAA women’s basketball scoring mark. “But I think it’s just kind of come along with how my four years have gone. And it’s crazy looking back at how fast everything’s gone. But I’m just really thankful and grateful.
“I dreamed of doing really big things, playing in front of big crowds, going into the Final Four, maybe not quite on this level.”
