Undefeated South Carolina will play its third national championship game in program history Sunday and will take on Iowa, which is appearing in its second title game.
The Gamecocks won both of the previous national title games in which they’ve played, in 2021 and 2022. They are in search of the 10th perfect season in women’s college basketball history, now 37-0 after overcoming NC State in the Final Four.
This is Iowa’s first time in the Final Four as a one seed, besting UConn in their most recent matchup, 71-69. Despite being held to only six points in the first half, Caitlin Clark scored 21 points and managed nine rebounds in the win.
The two teams met in last year’s Final Four, where Iowa took down the Gamecocks, 77-73, to end their last perfect season before the title game. This season, South Carolina has held its 10 ranked opponents to under 70 points per game, and it is outscoring its opponents by 20 points per game in the paint at the NCAA Tournament.
Since 2019, Iowa is 16-4 in the NCAA Tournament. This year, Clark took the Hawkeyes right back to where they were in 2023 to the championship game, this time looking to take home the win against the Gamecocks.
