Iowa State DC’s son among 5 staffers suspended by NCAA for betting on pro, college sports

Five current and former Iowa State staffers received two-week suspensions from the NCAA after they were found to have placed 6,248 online bets totaling more than $103,000 on pro and college sports from April 2021 through May 2023.

Four of the staffers — none of whom currently work at Iowa State — also wagered on Cyclones’ men’s and women’s basketball games. The fifth was Jace Heacock, son of Iowa State defensive coordinator Jon Heacock. Jace Heacock was a graduate assistant and is now the director of football analytics.

The NCAA released its findings last Friday, which was first reported by The Associated Press. Iowa State officials declined to comment.

None of Iowa State’s five staff members were charged by law enforcement in the gambling sting. They were found to have committed the following NCAA infractions:

  • Former assistant director of football equipment operations Chase Clark placed 2,305 bets totaling $18,676 on pro and college sports, including 46 bets on Iowa State men’s and women’s basketball teams.
  • Former assistant equipment manager Michael Dryer placed 1,182 bets totaling $11,536 on pro and college sports, including 25 bets on Iowa State men’s and women’s basketball teams.
