The highly anticipated rematch between Iowa and LSU broke records on Monday night as the Hawkeyes advanced to the Final Four.
According to ESPN, Monday’s rematch between Iowa and LSU was the most-watched women’s college basketball game of all time, with over 12 million viewers. It was also the most-watched college basketball game ever on ESPN platforms.
To add further context, 12.3 million viewers is more than every college football game last season outside of the College Football Playoff, Ohio State vs. Michigan, and the SEC Championship. It serves as another example of the growing popularity of Women’s College Basketball due to its multiple stars across the country, including LSU’s Angel Reese and Iowa’s Caitlin Clark.
Iowa guard Caitlin Clark led the Hawkeyes with 41 points, 12 assists, and seven rebounds. It was her 13th career game with over 40 points. LSU’s Angel Reese finished the game with 17 points, 20 rebounds, and three blocks before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.
The Hawkeyes will face No. 3 UConn in the Final Four on April 5 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio.
