Hayes names squad for Olympic rematch
U.S. women’s national team head coach Emma Hayes will continue to try things out this year with her roster selections while she can. The puzzle is figuring out whether we should pay attention to the returning names or the new ones.
Hayes announced the 24-player U.S. squad moments ago for matches against Brazil in California next month: April 5 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood and April 8 at PayPal Park in San Jose. We’ll get Meg’s thoughts in a moment, but first, here are some highlights:
- Trinity Rodman returns to the roster for the first time since helping the U.S. win gold over Brazil at the Paris Olympics last summer. As for the rest of Triple Espresso, Sophia Wilson remains out due to pregnancy and Mal Swanson has not been available for club or country all year due to a personal matter.
- Hayes has brought back 19 of the 23 players who played in the 2025 SheBelieves Cup, a trophy they lost to Japan in February.
