Zambian forward Racheal Kundananji is officially the world’s most expensive player after National Women’s Soccer League expansion team Bay FC paid a €735,000 transfer fee (about $788,000 using Tuesday’s conversion rate) — plus the possibility of $75,000 more in performance add-ons — to Spain’s Madrid CFF, multiple sources confirmed to The Equalizer. The fee smashed a record set only a few weeks ago when Chelsea paid Levante €450,000 with €50,000 in possible add-ons for Colombian forward Mayra Ramirez.
The fee more than doubles the previous NWSL transfer record. Kundananji will be among the highest-paid players in the NWSL, too. She signed a four-year contract that includes an option for a fifth year and is worth over $2 million cumulative — $2.5 million total valuation over the five years factoring everything like paid housing (which affects the salary cap), multiple sources confirmed.
