World No 20 Donna Vekic has withdrawn from this week’s WTA 250 event in Bad Homburg. Vekic, who was a seeded player in Bad Homburg, was scheduled to play her opener at the tournament on Monday against Emma Navarro. On Sunday, Vekic was beaten by Petra Kvitova in the Berlin final.
After playing five matches last week and concluding her Berlin run on Sunday, it was expected to see Vekic withdrawing from Bad Homburg as playing again on Monday would have probably been too much for the Croat. Had Vekic competed in Bad Homburg, she would have been making her debut at the German grass-court tournament.
Vekic gets a confidence boost ahead of Wimbledon
Vekic kicked off her grass season two weeks ago in Nottingham, where she suffered a surprise defeat to Viktorija Golubic in the round-of-16. After a disappointing loss in Nottingham, Vekic bounced back in Berlin, where she fell just short of winning the title.
