Cori Gauff admits she sometimes battles imposter syndrome but also has her ways of convincing herself those thoughts are not true or correct. Gauff, who turned 19 in March, has an absolutely impressive resume for a 19-year-old girl.
Gauff is a Grand Slam finalist – has three WTA titles – competed at the WTA Finals – has been ranked as high as No 4 in the world. Also, Gauff has eight doubles titles and has been ranked at No 1 on the doubles rankings list.
Despite all of her impressive results, Gauff still sometimes experiences imposter syndrome – the condition of feeling anxious and not experiencing success internally, despite being high-performing in external, objective ways.

“I feel like when I step on the court the confidence is high, but I think throughout my life, even as a junior going into tournaments, I would get a lot of anxiety about where I was playing-wise, and then when I stepped on the court, I definitely feel like I can win the match.
I think it’s just fighting those thoughts and understanding that I belong here. You know, imposter syndrome is a thing, so sometimes I get that, but it’s something that I’m working on to realize I’m here for a reason and my ranking is here for a reason and I definitely deserve that,”…
